Atlantic Academy Rhineland-Palatinate
The Atlantic Academy is a non-profit institution that was founded by the Rheinland-Pfalz state government in 1996 and is supported by a non-partisan association. This association is funded by the state and is concerned with maintaining transatlantic relations and providing comprehensive information on U.S. politics and society.
The work of the Atlantic Academy rests on three focal pillars:
1. Encounters
The Atlantic Academy presents a forum to all those who have questions related to the United States and its transatlantic relations and who seek discourse with others; Americans as well as Germans. In addition, concerts, film screenings, and lectures present an opportunity for encounters across all the different regions of Rhineland-Palatinate.
2. Education
The Atlantic Academy offers lectures, seminars, and workshops for all those interested in transatlantic issues. The Academy is open to everyone looking for substantiated information from distinguished experts, including American scholars who have come to Germany following an invitation by the Atlantic Academy.
3. Expertise
Those looking for advice—be it journalists, politicians, entrepreneurs, or students—may use the knowledge and experience of the Atlantic Academy’s staff as a resource. As part of the national American studies network, the Academy is able to establish contact with distinguished scholars in the respective fields.

Welcome to Rheinland-Pfalz a project of 11 communities close to mitlitary installations
Germany is one of the most popular countries for U.S. military members and their families when it comes to an overseas assignment and Rheinland-Pfalz is the federal state with the largest American presence. In fact, in many municipalities the percentage of Americans in the total population reaches more than 20 percent. Main reasons for the enormous popularity are:
the strong sense of security, the high quality of life and the welcoming by the local population.
Rheinland-Pfalz, in particular, is known for the hospitality of its people and the communities, the administrations, and the state strive to be good hosts to the stationed American citizens.
In 2014, the Ministry of Interior Rheinland-Pfalz bundled the efforts and started the initiative “Welcome to Rheinland-Pfalz! Our Neighbors from the USA”. 11 communities close to the military installations in Ramstein, Baumholder, and Spangdahlem are currently participating in this state initiative.
